A shot in the Lake District went wrong when the shutter jammed. Normally I’d delete it but the movement caught my eye so layered it up with the final shot and messed about with the opacities until I got a result I thought was quite pleasing to the eye.

Third of a series of three photos taken in Sweden wandering through woodland near Linköping. Large granite outcrops provided viewpoints over the surrounding landscape but little for the trees nearby to cling on to. The contrasts of patterns and textures were extrememly pleasing and made for an interesting collection of studies.

Heathland grasses from Glen Feshie. The colours reminded me of rhubarb, sprinkled with sesame seeds! Not sure that’s a combination that works well on a plate but it definitely works printed and in a frame.

Coming out of Glen Feshie in late summer, it struck me that the autumn colours were really about to pop. The heather was maybe a couple of weeks away but there were strong hints of purple, and the grass heads waving in the wind were beautiful.

Goose barnacles, so called because people used to think that barnacle geese hatched from them, long before the concept of bird migration was known! They attach to flotsam and are often only seen washed up after storms. In this case these were found attached to a bhoy on Elgol Beach - after a storm.
