An early winter's morning in Assynt as the sun rose over the horizon and a large squall swept in towards us. However I was determined to stand my ground and despite being hammered by rain and hail it passed over, and the soft light combined with the falling rain created a glowing landscape behind me towards Stac Pollaidh and the Assynt mountains.

Autumn at Stock Ghyll Force, just up the hill from Ambleside in the Lake District. A lovely spot but often overlooked for the quaintness of the village itself.

The Loch Ard cross. It has an interesting story which involves Rob Roy's wife or it could just be a marker for the rock which sits under the surface of the water.

A very cold sunrise at Loch Ard, when even the inside of my camera bag frosted up. When the sun did rise over the hills we were treated to some lovely light, the warm tones of the reeds and hillside contrasting with the cold blues of the lingering mist. The arrival of a flock of geese just added something to the composition.

The backlit birches of Holm Fell. A view often photographed but on a frosty morning with mist rolling around, its worth the short hike up the fell to see it.

The Fairy Pools on Skye. After clear skies all morning, a passing hail storm arrived and signalled it was time to get in the river. Despite being battered by the rain and hailstones, I rode it out and managed to get one decent shot in between cleaning the splashes off the filters. I even kept the river level below the top of my wellies.

Arriving late at night to my stopover on Skye, I happened to glance out the van window to see pillars of light on the northern horizon. The Aurora Borealis was on show!

On an absolutely foul day in Torridon, a group of us walked into the Coulin estate to explore its beautiful Caledonian Pine woodland. Just as we were about to turn back, another rain storm passed over and we all waited to photograph these two beautiful pines set against the backdrop of the birch trees.

Travelling home after a week in the Highlands, I noticed the sky was looking interesting. With sunset approaching I made the decision to divert off the A9 and visit a favourite location, Loch Morlich. It was a good decision as the sky erupted in colour for nearly an hour and the mirror like reflections just added to the incredible conditions.

I diverted off the motorway on my way to a meeting to this popular spot overlooking Stirling just as the sun was coming up. I was hoping for some colour in the sky and on the hills and, a few minutes after sunrise, I wasn't disappointed.

A morning when freezing fog covered most of Central Scotland. I climbed the Ochil Hills above Stirling to get above it and watch it swirl and eventually part around the Wallace Monument below. 1 of 2 prints.

An early morning shoot on the moor above Achiltibuie in Assynt, brought a beautiful glowing sunrise. The rocks below us, weathered by centuries of rain, wind and snow, lead the eye off to the islands on the horizon.

This image was taken during a family holiday to North Uist in the summer months. After a few days exploring the beaches of the north, we drove south to the island of Eriskay on a stormy day, and Andrew saw this little football pitch down below the road. We stopped the car so he could get a photograph and of course he just had to go down and play football on it as well. Very recently we found out it was featured by FIFA as one of the eight most unique places to play football in the world! The photo won Andrew the Junior Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year 2017 – for the second year in a row - and also won him the Young Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2018.
The image was featured by the BBC in an online article about Andrew's work and was also shared by FIFA itself on their instagram account in the lead up to the World Cup, gaining over 90,000 likes!

A winter's walk up the Birks of Aberfeldy was cut short near the top as a blizzard swept in over the hill and towards the town. As we walked back down, I photographed this tree on the far side of the gorge being battered by the winds and snow. Printed on a textured paper, the softness of the image gives it the impression of a tapestry.

A weekend in Glencoe turned out wet and overcast. Andrew and I decided to look for waterfalls and so we climbed up the path in Coire Gabhail which leads to the Hidden Valley. All the small rivulets tumbling off the hillsides had turned into torrents and a number of them provided interesting compositions.
The photograph was commended as part of a portfolio of images in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition 2021.

On a family holiday we walked through the woodland to find Craigmin Bridge. It is of a very unusual design wih its tiered arches and makes a nice composition on what was a dreary overcast day.

An autumn walk up by the Birks of Aberfeldy offered several waterfalls and some beautiful seasonal colours. This particular image worked well with the strong diagonal composition. I entered it into the newly launched Natural Landscape Awards where it got through to the fourth stage of judging and the top 10% of images entered.

An amazing evening when the Aurora Borealis could be seen across the whole of the UK. We raced to Musselburgh near Edinburgh to get away from street lighting and after spending time near the harbour, we found this skatepark which provided an unusual foreground, just as the northern lights were starting to fade. This image went on to win Andrew the overall title of the UK Young Landscape Photographer of the Year 2017, an accolade which he is unlikely to eclipse anytime soon. Any framed prints ordered will be provided with a unique confirmation label.

A walk through Rothiemurchus Forest and as we stumbled up on this view of the old Caledonian Pine forest, the sun lit up the woodland around us. After day of grey skies it was a welcome relief to finally catch some colour.

Loch Morlich at sunset. Situated in the foothills of the Cairngorms, it is a popular place for families to enjoy the inland beach and the cold waters of the loch. The views are spectacular too.

We had climbed to the summit of Cairngorm earlier in the day in freezing whiteout conditions, but as we descended the lower slopes, the clouds parted long enough for us to see the mist hanging low over Loch Morlich. We ran all the way back down to the car and just got to the lochside in time to catch the last remaining light of the day. This photo was shortlisted in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year Competition 2018.

The Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye shortly after dawn. We had both camped at the Quiraing overnight, hammering in the tent pegs to break the frozen spagnum moss in the dark. The intention was to photograph the cliffs to the north, but this proved a more interesting view.

After four days of terrible weather we got up before the dawn to catch this moment, when the winter sun rose just enough above the surrounding cliffs to light up the edge of the Bow Fiddle Rock, a well known natural feature beside the village of Portknockie in Morayshire.
